So very funny. iIhad a grand time with this council of queens. I only watched season 1 of Good Girls but the similarities, women who are underestimated! Don't ever underestimate a bad bitch!

If I had a nickel for every time I read a book by a Desi female author who’s also a lawyer I’d have THREE nickels. All this year! How weird is that! Desi women leave some talent for the rest of us!

This was my book club’s pick for August and I honestly don’t think I’d have stuck it out and read it all if it wasn’t. Unfortunately I struggled to get into this book and found myself googling vocabulary and cultural references too much to fully feel like I could get stuck in. I did enjoy the camaraderie that eventually grows between the women of the village and admired their strength and quick wit but the dark humour was a little bit hard for me to take given then amount of abuse and trauma the book delves into. It’s definitely one that I wish I’d read the trigger warnings for before reading but it was eye-opening to learn about how things are in remote villages such as the one featured in this book.

I really loved this book! I found Geeta to be incredibly charming. I loved watching her reform (and stumble through) relationships as an adult.

I also loved the story of Phoolan, I think it really added a proper weight to everything. A real figure who's story is so incredible. I loved learning about her.

I also thought this book was really funny! Although it covers many heavy topics the banter and antics between the characters felt so real to me and had me laughing a couple times.

I think the messaging of this story was also really great. I do wish -minor spoiler ahead - that I had known about the attempted assault scene. This is my own fault, and if I'd known going into it, it wouldn't have been as big of a deal.

The only thing that bothered me slightly was the miscommunication. It only happens a couple of times and they are handled well I just didn't think they were necessary. It's also just not something I love in my media. Otherwise everything else was really great!

Idiots trying to get away with murder. The type of feminism where you hate women but hate men more. If someone says they have a dark sense of humor have them read this book. Absolutely loved, made me laugh out loud.

The subjects explored in the book were shocking but understandably that is the reality that many women may face in that society.  I felt like it was really thrown in my face gratuitously and wish there was more of a warm up to it. There was one part I truly chuckled at but found the shifts between serious discussions of said topics and the banter between the women jarring.

At times I found the many of the characters unlikeable and found the events leading up to the ending to be overly theatrical and incredulous. But it did tie up nicely. I wish there were more explanation of Karem and ASP Sinha. I suppose they were my favorite characters as the least manipulative people in the story.

Overall, it seemed like the author tried to explore a lot of themes and was in a rush to wrap up.

I really enjoyed this book, it's witty quick and I was transported to the world and village of Geeta. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to read more about these women. I wish it was a film too, as it would be so good to see some of the hilarious scenes played out. There's a lot of violence towards women in this book which at times is hard but the contrast with the humour is deftly done.
