The surviving girls is a scary and intense read. A boyfriend who turns out to be a serial killer is is something out of a worst nightmare. The writing really let me feel all the things Lei and Emma were feeling. I don’t really get scared that easily but I was reading this in the middle of the night and at one point I had to check if I closed all the windows. The plot kept me engaged but the pacing was a bit off. There was this long built up to the climax which lasted only 20 pages. And again like the previous book there were some open plot points that weren’t resolved.

The romance could’ve been better. I just don’t like insta love. And it especially didn’t work here because Lei doesn’t trust anyone. But I liked that we got an extra chapter after the resolution. This was something I really missed in the previous books of the series.

3.5 stars. I really enjoyed this mystery/thriller read! They classify it has romantic suspense, but it’s very light on the romance. I’ll Definitely read the other books in the series.

I liked the series but I'm confused why no smut in the third book??? Let down.

In the end I have two questions: 1) how are all these very capable and competent agents getting kidnapped in every book? 2) how tall ARE these men???

as with every book in this series, the plot was so intriguing!! i’m slightly obsessed with serial killers, and you can tell katee has done her research before writing. the connection between dante & lei was freaking amazing, and i loved them so much. this one was definitely focused more on the suspense than the romance, but that was totally fine with me!

The Surviving Girls kept me guessing until almost the end. The story sucks you in, and keeps you there the entire time. The reader comes to sympathize with Lei and Emma. It is interesting to see how two people who lived through an extremely brutal situation react in different ways, but remain committed to keeping each other safe and as sane as possible. If you are a fan of mystery/thrillers this book is for you. The twists and turns kept coming throughout the entire story. As soon as you think you've got it figured out something else happens to cause you to question your reasoning.

The only negative remark I have about the story is that the climax happens so quickly. It's roughly 200 pages of build up and then the resolution takes place in roughly 30 pages. I would have loved that part to have taken a bit longer, but in the end I'm still satisfied with the outcome and ultimate conclusion to the story.

I received a copy of The Surviving Girls from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I expected to like, and maybe even love, this book. Katee Robert does an excellent job of writing romances, and I thought that would carry over to the romantic suspense genre. It doesn’t.

Received from NetGalley in exchange for review.

The mystery plot in this book had the potential to but good, but a couple things really kept me from enjoying it. The biggest issue for me was the romance aspect of the book. Jamming a "love at first site" romance into a book that is focused around a really gruesome killer is jarring and detracted from the book's scare-factor. The author also could have cut down on repetition - I don't need to be told the same facts over and over again. Finally, the conclusion of the book was rushed and anti-climactic
Spoiler(and I wish Lei had saved herself instead of being saved by a man)
.

This book! I finished reading The Surviving Girls last night, and my heart is still racing.

Lei and Emma's story is one that will have you looking over your shoulder, wondering at every bump in the night and give you hyper-alert senses.

Their story is not a fun one - the past decade has been a world of horrors, but as a reader you can't help but cheer that they are finally starting to move on in life - as much as they can.

But boy, Ms Robert really has ratcheted up the evil that is the killer in The Surviving Girls. He is a sick f^*k , a complete psychopath.

Every turn of the page I had my heart in my throat. Who is this killer? Who can you trust? Is everyone who they say they are.

I won't lie, I had a couple of people I thought were the killer as I read, however nothing was revealed until Ms Robert really had me worked up.

Even writing this review I am getting all anxious for the characters again - well played Ms Robert!

I don't want to give anything away, but boy this one had me on the edge of my seat.

Can't wait t see what Ms Robert brings us next.
