Boring, boring, boring, lame. Who cares, oh my god. Simple ideas, simple execution. Whatver, man.

I loved it! So wild. I'm in awe that George Orwell was able to create this world and then add layer upon layer... and it all made sense while horrifying and entertaining.
The first two parts were so good and then the third part I read the whole thing aloud to Jed and couldn't stop because it was so brutal.
My favorite part was when Winston was talking to the guy working on Newspeak and how/why they were deleting words. So many good lines in this book, on the Kindle you can see where people highlight of thousands of them do..beyond that there were a lot of, "oh damn I gotta read that again and again because it's perfect".
5/5 telescreens

still enjoyed this quite a bit after so many years! so much fun to discuss with the younger generation, too (this makes me feel like i am seventy six years old).

Great message, terrible book. The beginning got me hooked for the first 75 pages or so and then I just wanted it to be over. This book is broken into three parts that go something like this: Part 1-everything is weird here and this is what our life is like; Part 2- A girl likes me and we have sex as often as we can even though its illegal, also down with Big Brother; Part 3- betrayed and tortured. I felt like I was walking through a bog and was begging for a sinkhole to swallow me up. I am glad I read it for the simple fact that it is prevalent in some aspect to today as well as historically, but I absolutely hated 90% of it and never want to read it again. The End :)

I think this book should be studied in every school, the message it leaves readers with and fantastically builds throughout the book is extremely important and at the same time the scope of it is hard to digest. I’ll need to have a long think about this book before I can say more. The reason it’s not a 5 star read for me is because i felt the ending was inconclusive and too open for speculation, but I do understand why that is.
