It was just ok for me

It was ok.
I found the first half of the book was really slow and I had a hard time keeping going.
The second half was better but I still felt like it was missing something.

I want to say that this was very different from my usual fantasy romance read. Not in a bad way, in a different way. I will explain.

Cassia and Lio are absolutely adorable together. Their romance is a slow burn almost friends to lovers more than anything else despite being pitted against each other due to families, species, and political issues.

This is different because the first half is Cassia and Lio developing their relationship as friends drawn to each other while the rest is very much political conflict of their world. Therefore the pace is slower overall because of the world building political atmosphere that dominates the beginning. Then the spice and romance comes later.

It was a great read. The story is beautiful as are the characters. The next book is out and I look forward to continuing the story!!

The author is so talented and I really love the cover, the feel, how incredibly sweet Lio is! He’s not the usual love interest. He’s so amazing where Cassia is guarded and strong. I loved it!! Can’t wait for more

Geez and May I humbly say louise. If you’re looking for action packed then look elsewhere but if you’re looking for tension and political intrigue then pick this book up now.
I often struggle in romances to believe that characters have fallen for one another but every moment of this was believable. I warn you to have an open mind, I think the Worldbuilding is stunning. Vela doesn’t hold our hands or tell us what things are. She writes as if this is the true world we’re living in and we are expected to just figure it out and guess what? You do!
This is a book to set your brain in autopilot and let it put the puzzle pieces together. It is a crime so few people have read this book.
Sunshine sweetie boy and untrusting grumpy girl? Yes please
Anywho…
Onto the next

There were parts of this were the pacing felt incredibly slow, to the point where I took a break and read a couple of other quick books about 75% in. BUT I really enjoyed it overall. The love story is so sweet. I will continue the series, but I need a break first.
