At first I wasn't all that into this series, but it is definitely growing on me. I liked this book the best out of them so far.

Only 9 mentions of Nike in this book which was a slight relief. I'm going to have to be honest, I really dislike Anita sometimes. She's too independent to the point of being stubborn for the sake of it. I'm going to persevere and read the next few books in the series though before I write them off completely.

I'm loving how gradually Hamilton expands the world. It's always just a bit per book, and usually with some character already close to Anita, so it's new to us, but not always new to Anita. I was worried it would start to feel like scope creep and always a bigger, badder, villain, but that's not the case at all in this series. It's organic, scary, and so fun. I'm still completely engrossed in the series.

Could have been 3 stars but Richard ruined it and the ending got my brain twisted.

I liked this segment of the Anita Blake series. I liked it, didn't love it. With this particular story, I developed a love/hate sentiment toward Anita. I love that she is so straight forward, dominant and I hate that she is so abrasive and sometimes uncaring. Maybe it's because I live in a world where vampires and werewolves are fantasy, but there were times in Lunatic Cafe, where I was begging Anita to give poor Richard a break. I like Richard, he's not a bad guy, I think. Anita though, just played this tug-of-war game with his emotions and her own throughout this whole story and in the end, I was exhausted just reading about it. I did like the whole "we're all dating" dynamic, that should be interesting to read in the next installment. However tired and sometimes put-off by reading about Anita, I always go back for more. Can't wait for book five.
