A cosy mystery with plenty of peril and an intriguing love triangle. For me, the murders definitely played second fiddle to Patience's envy-inducing island life. I loved the vivid description of Chincoteague, especially Patience's, and that alone makes me want to return ASAP!

Patience Prince has returned home to try and restart her life. After being downsized from the FBI’s human resource department she has decided to use her degree in counseling. Although starting a counseling business on her little island hometown has proven to be more difficult than she had thought. She is home five minutes when life starts to become crazy. An ex is accused of murder, someone keeps egging her property and she’s involved in a drive-by. And that’s in just the first couple of days. Patience Prince is now on a mission to find out who the true murderer is and who is after her!

Murder by the Seaside it’s not your average cozy Mystery and I say that in the best way possible. Patience Prince is one of those people that cares and likes to help. Which seems to be able to get her into trouble easily yet she’s willing to do anything it takes. She’s a strong woman, daring and maybe doesn’t quite understand the concept of sense of danger. But I will tell you it does make her very funny. With hippies for parents and an ex-boyfriend's meddling mother it’s no wonder she is the way she is. Pony island is colorful and fun. The inhabitants are unique and will definitely have you laughing. Julie Ann Lindsay pens one heck of a story here. Murder by the Seaside action packed, fast paced with a pretty intricate mystery. We have a cast of wonderful characters that definitely catch your attention. I loved the romantic elements within the story. Being a romance reader first and foremost, I always love it when there’s a little bit of romance added into the mysteries. this book was definitely a quick ride but I would absolutely love to visit pony Island again.

Pack your bags! This book by Julie Anne Lindsey will definitely take you on an adventure.  Lots of action going on, slight more romance, and crime which sets this novel as a traditional mystery. There's great characters and a perfect island setting. Can't wait to read the next adventure in the Patience Price three part series.

It's no secret that Julie Anne Lindsey is one of my favorite authors. When I had the opportunity to read a revamped ARC of Murder by the Seaside for the re-release, I jumped at the chance.

Murder by the Seaside is the first Patience Price mystery. It's more of a traditional mystery and would not be considered cozy. There was definitely a romantic element - well, two - wrapped up in the story. There was more danger and criminal activity and details than a cozy. I really enjoyed this book. I did figure out whodunit shortly before the reveal, but loved seeing it play out.

The mystery was intense and kept me reading. There were so many times I laughed out loud. I really liked that things I love so much about Julie Anne's books were present even in her first book: humor, romance, and a believable mystery. While you can tell this is an early book (as her writing talent is more defined now after nearly 50 more books under her belt), it still had those things that make her an auto-buy author for me. I can't wait to read the next Patience Price book!

*I read the 2022 version of this book.
This might just be my favorite Julie Anne Lindsey book yet! A hint of romance, quirky humor and an interesting locale make this a must read in my opinion. Patience leaps right off the page as her adventure kicks on when she returned to Pony Island after being terminated from the FBI...where she worked in human resources. Hoping to set up a counseling service on an island where everyone knows everyone’s business may not be the brightest idea she’s had but it’s the one she’s going to run with if she makes its through the first two weeks at home alive, that is. Is she the bumbling sidekick to Sebastian’s 007, a future Jane Bond in her own right or the flower child her parents always wanted her to be? Determined to find her own path I can’t wait to see where the next two books take her.

Action-packed, tense, and erratic, this face-paced mystery from Julie Anne Lindsey is clearly one of her early works; but despite being rough around the edges it still shines with her trademark style.  I look forward to reading the rest of the series to see her skill develop and the characters grow into their potential.

Book #1 read in 2018

I had a hard-time enjoying this book. I felt the author tried too hard to make the characters and plot line funny and it fell short. I found myself rolling my eyes at the silliness. That being said, I enjoyed the setting. Chincoteague Island seems like the exact type of place I'd love to vacation, minus the murders.

Not bad for the first in a series. Well crafted and suspenseful plot, likeable characters and great locale. The only criticism I had is that there was too much packed into one book. I started to lose interest the 20th time the MC was nearly killed by a drive-by...or was it the car bomb? Can't remember, it all became kind of a blur. Still, it was good enough that I'll consider reading the next book in the series.
