Sprawling.

I don't expect I'll continue with the series.

I think this was my favorite in the series so far. The American Revolution is starting and Jamie, Claire, Brianna, Roger, and the rest and preparing for it. There is also quite a bit of strife on Fraser's Ridge, which made for a quite entertaining read.

Despite running on only 5 hours of sleep, I stayed up 2 hours later than normal to finish it! Everything I love about the series is here: Claire's strength and reciprocal trust in Jamie, their partnership, their now-intuitive and almost telepathic understanding of each other, the importance of family, historical details about life in the mid 1770s... everything, and with that gentle touch of humor I appreciate.

Even potentially awkward scenes keep the characters true to themselves, without the constant agonising or dismissive behavior too often seen elsewhere. Then there's the thin line Jamie must tread between the English, his tenants and the local Indian tribes, and the suspense of the newspaper clipping... how reliable is it? Can the future ever be changed?
