this is genuinely one of the best books i have ever read. williams writes about love, sex, general trauma, race, passion for career, the hardships of both motherhood and teenage years, and so much more so impeccably well. there were several moments i had to physically set the book down to take a breath because i was so excited, and other moments where i had to force my eyes to stay on the sentence i was reading instead of skipping ahead to figure out what happens. she captured a stronger glimpse of the human experience than any author i’ve ever read. i’m left in awe of this book and would recommend it to anyone.

I was really excited for Seven Days in June, but it ended up just being mid. I thought the characters and the set up was great! I loved the adult romance with realistic stakes and the chemistry was good. The writing was also witty and fun.

However, there were quite a few issues. The romance felt rushed, especially in the flashbacks (everything happens in 7 days in the past and present, so 14 total) and there was quite a bit of trauma bonding. There is a lot of dialogue and writing choices that are over the top and it made the reading experience very cringey. There’s literally a line in the book, “F@ck me on James Baldwins bed.” Thats what I mean by over the top. In that sense, it was also tactless and would come off as very privileged. Although both main characters grew up poor and struggling, their adult lives are lavish and wealthy and some of the writing came off as insensitive. For example, there’s a line where Eva’s daughter Audre wishes she went to public school instead of private school so she could experience “real oppression.” I’m not sure if that was meant to be intentionally obtuse, but it didn’t come off that way.

The ending was also underwhelming. There’s also something really traumatic that happens at the ending thats disregarded for the romance so it just seemed really unnecessary. I thought it was obvious they would end up together, but it gets drawn out for like a month, which negates the premise of the book because everything is supposed to have happened within 7 days.

Overall, the book was just alright, not great. I’m glad I read it but I’m also glad I borrowed my copy from the library.

The writing in this second chance romance is exquisite. I love reading about writers, and this romance is about two writers, so that was perfect. This was a 5 star prediction and I'm so happy that it turned out to be exactly what I wanted. THE CHEMISTRY between these two leads....it was everything. TO ADD ONTO THAT: i loved the representation in here for invisible disabilities / chronic pain. the main character is a migraine sufferer and it impacts her day to day so much and i found that extremely relatable.

As much as I wish it was this was definitely not a 5 star read for me personally
This book was deeply fucked up and the characters were super flawed but those weren’t even the reason why it wasn’t 5 ⭐️- I mean I fully was not prepared for all of that but that wasn’t even the issue really I don’t think. My issue mainly was because of all of that despite how much I loved the characters and the incredible character work that Tia Williams did, the main couple just seemed toxic and like they probably shouldn’t be together at least not till they got their shit together. That’s all even more true with Eva having a daughter and her being at least somewhat aware of their relationship. However, I do think this book is really really important in a lot of ways and was really really well done which is why I rated it as (relatively) highly as I did.
Not even when I finished it but as I got towards the end I really could not decide how I feel about this book. I think 4.25 is a pretty good descriptor but I still don’t fully know cause this book gave me such mixed feelings
