i went into this one with such high hopes, and i honestly think that was what ruined it for me. i loved the chronic migraines rep. i somewhat tolerated the fact that both mcs were writers - i feel like this is hit or miss with me, but usually a miss. i did not check the CW before reading, and that was definitely my bad, but most of the reviews i had seen on tiktok or insta hadn't mentioned it being a "heavy" book -- this one most defintitely was, and it was much heavier than i could have anticipated. i ended up soft-DNFing this like 50% in and left in untouched for almost a month, but i pushed through hoping it would magically get better (spoiler alert: it did not) this was just not my favorite, and one of my disappointments of the year.

Oh I loved this book so fucking much like wow. What a book, what a week. So the books has sections labeled Sunday to Saturday and ofc I had to read thru the dates in time with the week. What a magical experience 10/10.

One issue I had was that the book would use cultural references so awkwardly that I simply got jolted out of the story yk but other than that

I knew this book was going to be a 5 ⭐️ in the first 50 pages. There haven’t been many books I’ve read that the characters felt as human as Shane, Eva, and even Audre. The way their joys, agonies, and everything in between are described is nothing short of perfection. I will admit not a lot of “plot” happens in this book it’s all character development and reflection, but if you love that please read. I’m normally not a second chance romance lover, this one is perfection.

Second Chance Romance, Trauma, 2 1/2 🔥

“You push stuff away that isn’t safe and obvious, Mom, but love isn’t safe and obvious. Love is risky. Take the risk, woman.”

“I’ve been roaming around forever, and I’ve never been anywhere I wasn’t itching to leave.”

I wanted to like this book more than I actually did. I almost DNF'd at 50% because I was having trouble connecting with and investing in the characters. The second half was much better; toward the end I finally started buying into their love for one another. I think I needed the book and characters to acknowledge the dysfunction and codependency of the relationship, because once that happened, I was able to fully embrace it. All throughout the writing was beautiful, and I loved the mother-daughter relationship as well as Eva's journey of self-discovery.

This was a literary romance with serious heft to it and I devoured it in two days. It felt like all of the things I love about well done literary fiction mashed up with an underlying romance novel. I loved that it didn’t fit neatly into either genre, but if you’re used to reading more traditional, lighthearted romance books check the content warnings on this one before diving in because there are a LOT of them. Ultimately, I loved how real these characters felt because of the difficult life circumstances they experienced and I thought the writing was gorgeous. I highly recommend this to folks who don’t typically read romance as an entry point into the genre if you’re curious!

I know I’m late to this one but after  finally getting to read it — I understand the buzz it drew. Seven Days in June was a love story unlike others. I have been in a reading slump unable to finish a book in weeks and I was enthralled in this story from beginning to end. The only thing keeping this from a full 5 start to me is I was left wanting to dive into the complexity of some of the side characters so they could feel as full and rounded as Shane and Eva did.
