This book absolutely wrecked me. It is such a beautiful and unique take on a second chance romance where the characters are so complicated and traumatized. In some parts I laughed out loud, and then in other parts, it was making me sob for these wonderful characters. I cannot recommend this book enough. As a person living with chronic illness and chronic pain, I felt so seen, and the discussions around the main characters disability touched me so deeply.

this book was so close to perfect but some elements were missing and the beginning was a little too slow so i couldn’t give it a perfect score.

this book was truly impactful. it was complex and raw. it examined many important and hard themes in such an intense and personal way. this book was so realistic, the writing was beautiful and engaging. the characters were imperfect and authentic and so endearing. i just wish we could’ve seen a little more of their past to understand more their behaviours (also kinda wish audre was acting more of her age sometimes i couldn’t understand how she wasn’t 16?!?).

tropes: second chance romance, bookish setting

ngl there are a bunch of parts of this book that i think were unsuccessful or just not great/necessary. however, i fell in absolute love with the characters and their stories. i would do anything for them.

I feel like this book did not give me as much as I expected. The ending was unnecessarily stretched and even though I adored the characters (especially the mother-daughter-relationship and the dynamic between Audre and Shane), the plot somehow seemed incomplete…?

Yet, this novel is breathtaking, funny and reflective while dealing with the power of love, coping with your past demons and tackling todays racism. Beautifully written and gorgeous characters with hell of a trauma. I especially enjoyed the fragility of Evas and Shanes relationship: a honest reflection of reality.

All in all: read this book y’all. It’s pretty good.

A little spicy, a little sweet, this book is a brilliant love story. It focuses on two broken people and their journey to loving themselves and one another completely. I loved the characters, I loved the way the author including many present-day pop culture references and allusions, I loved the ending.

This book was a masterpiece of fiction…aside from a rushed final act this book had everything I wanted: the emotions, the complicated family dynamics, the questions of self, and the angst in love found between two complicated leads.
