my first book of her poetry and I love the visceral nature of her poetry. Especially in this time of fear and uncertainty I need to be reminded of the beauty of life.

splendid Mary she's often cast as a poet of joy I find but of course odd solemnities seem to intrude it seems a kind of terror. Appeared to me there's grief but awareness of it and amazement at it - extraordinarily rare cocktail for a poet to be working with and part of what makes her special beyond her fantastic ear & control of the line. Perhaps a grief from not being already-enmeshed within each element of the natural but amazement at being able to perceive it

I never, ever read poetry, but this book made me want to start. I read a poem every day or two this summer, slowly making my way through this, and I loved almost every single one. They were very simple and honest, unlike most of the trying-too-hard MFA stuff I’ve read, but also complex enough to have real substance and stick with me, unlike Rupi Kaur and the other insta-poets. First poet I’ve really liked since Shel Silverstein!
