It’s a lot slower than many YA novels, so look elsewhere if you want a fast-moving thriller. This one is all about scheming and conniving, moved by the characters’ goals and dark desires to own each other.
While it’s a really good read (and terrifying as far as realistic stories go) it does throw around a lot of mental illnesses and doesn’t really expand on what they are, which doesn’t do any good for real people who might suffer from those illnesses. It’s the reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars.
Great on all other fronts, though, and probably my favourite read this month.
Graphic: Emotional abuse, Mental illness, Toxic relationship, Car accident, Schizophrenia/Psychosis , Gaslighting, and Alcohol
Moderate: Drug use and Forced institutionalization
Minor: Self harm, Alcohol, and Injury/Injury detail
