A Penguin First to Read ARC e-book in exchange for an honest review.

Cover love!

The cover got my attention and the synopsis made me think it would be a cute quick read.

I liked the witty banter that the narrator had with the reader, and there were a few scenes that seemed genuine and caught my attention. Overall though, the characters were just whiny dramatic kids. The initial romance was too quick to start and too quick to fizzle out.

Maybe I just don’t remember what it was like to be a teenager that’s love struck or maybe that type of behavior just is not real and totally an over dramatic stereotype, but you do get caught up in it even if you want to punch some of the characters.

I really wanted to love it but it was just a strong like. It was a quick easy read and entertaining. Maybe it would have been better if the characters were college aged and the author could add more maturity into the character development and less vapid behavior.

this was actually so bad that i physically COULD NOT finish it. like, they were constantly talking about how christianity and catholicism and basically all religion is so stupid and it was driving me CRAZY. and the relationships are so unrealistic that its just STU-PID. so yeah. 0.5 ⭐️
also i started this book bc i wanted a feel good cheesy romcom and this is NOT it. so no offense to lovers of this book, but i despised it. if you couldnt tell already

My ship didn't sail, so this book was bittersweet for me. I really enjoyed it, but [b:The Love Interest|31145148|The Love Interest|Cale Dietrich|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1485833541s/31145148.jpg|47243315] is still my favorite queer novel. Tee-hee. I'll publish a complete review once I overcome my book hangover. :3

This was good but I feel like you really have to suspend your disbelief while reading it. Also, Sam kind of annoyed me with how wishy-washy he was. I don't know; this was an interesting concept but I just didn't really connect with the characters much.

It was pretty predictable and the characters were mostly stereotypes but it was a quick easy read.

It’s been 2 years since Sam Raines has been in a relationship, or really, done anything romantic. His most recent relationship was his first, with his best friend Landon. It’s been two years and there’s been no one else, but can you blame him? Landon is *basically* the only gay guy in their high school in Ohio. There aren’t options

This was SUUUUUPER PROBLEMATIC

*Let the RANT Begin*

SpoilerI started reading this right after [b:The Music of What Happens|35442700|The Music of What Happens|Bill Konigsberg|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1527283064s/35442700.jpg|56825302] in which I found the characters to be a bit boring. This book has the exact opposite problem, I actively hated on our MC Sam. He is an extremely unlikable character, which I found isn't necessarily a problem for me. Of course with a problematic MC my fingers are crossed for some development. The real problem is that all of our other characters were one dimensional and the story was so wrong.

Now the story has a bit of magical element to it, but is basically a contemporary romance. I usually LOVE LGBTQ romances, in fact I live for the stuff. This story has so much problematic material, handled in the worst possible ways. If you ever find the moral of the story, please enlighten me. For me this story was just...

Now the characters...Sam is shallow & hypocritical. I kind of liked Landon (Sam's BFF) he was at least somewhat relatable and multidimensional. Sam's love interests are extremely basic. They are mainly described as "The French Guy," "The Shy Artist Boy," and "The Rebel."

You may be asking yourself why I have given it a two stars and not a one star. Well, that's because I was actively engaged in hating it. Being engaged in a book is something I love. Hating on things was also something I really enjoyed about this.

Basically this was a bad book. There are too many issues running rampant in here for it to be good, but I did enjoy hating on it. I would recommend to people who like to do the same...

Ahead will be some minor spoilers, where I will list my reasons for hating Sam and other stuff...

-Sam is a self-proclaimed hipster...because he drinks Chai Tea instead of coffee...WOW
-Sam talks about how lonely he is after two years but refuses to date, "the guy with acne," because he is too weird and nerdy. (Spoiler alert nerd boy actually finds love)
-Sam calls himself a lover of fantasy and Sci-Fi but doesn't like Labyrinth or Dark Crystal???
- Sam calls Landon spoiled because he gets everything he wants and never has to work for anything, yet he himself has a credit card...because that's so normal for a 17 year old.

THE CHEATING and the belief that if someone really loves you they can forgive you for it. AND LETTING your drunk friend go home with a stranger

I really liked Perfect Ten, and I had a lot of fun while reading it. This book does talk about important aspects of relasionships, and has a great moral at the end of the story.
SpoilerEven though I was rooting for the sexy soon-to-be-famous-musician, but ey, Jamie was the best fit for Sam
