Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Poppy & Kent’s points of view

Review:

This is the second book by Remi Carrington that I have read (the first being Ivy & Sutton’s story) and I absolutely loved it! Poppy, Kent, and Mason stole my heart (and a few hours of sleep) right away. I loved Mason’s personality and subtle moves to get Poppy and Kent to spend time together. I loved how Kent avoided (or at least tried to avoid) other women in general (as well as Tandy) and wanted nothing to do with anyone who was showing that they were interested in him. But he let Poppy in after awhile of her tagging along with different activities with Mason. I loved each moment of this story, but a few of my favorites included: night-time reading together, sitting on the porch, falling into water, ‘family’ dinners with all the workers, the butterfly field, and Poppy with her father and new step-mom. I can’t wait to go back and read the rest of the series/connected series and find out what happened between the other characters that were mentioned!

Summary:

Poppy isn’t looking for love. She’d rather focus on her career than find love and have to eventually deal with losing it. She watched her father after her mom died and saw how deep the heartbreak went, and Poppy is afraid of having that happen to her. But when her dad remarries to a wonderful woman, Poppy meets Kent and is attracted to the cowboy and his son. They are both so endearing and latch onto her heart before she knows what hit her. But neither she nor Kent are looking for a relationship (as she has to keep reminding herself) and that’s a good thing. Though the more time they all spend together as friends has Poppy wondering if it’d be so bad to allow herself to love him…

Kent doesn’t want another relationship, especially with how his last one turned out. He just wants to raise Mason in the loving home that they have with their ranch family. But Poppy is making him question his resolve over the decision. Not only is she really good with Mason, but her father and his wife have been like family to them even before Kent knew about Poppy. But with Poppy living nowhere near Texas and Mason needing a constant presence if Kent was even thinking of remarrying, Poppy isn’t a good choice of someone to pursue. Not that Kent’s heart knows the difference…

You guys, I am swooning so hard over the single dad trope lately. Kent is so great with Mason, Mason is the most adorable kid, and the way their story grows with Poppy is the sweetest and swooniest. This is a “not looking for love” situation for both MCs and I just loved how their walls came down and they grew so far past their intended friendship in the most heart warming way.

Things I Loved:
-More Tandy. Oh, Tandy. I love her.
-Butterfly field
-The river
-“Friendships are important.”
-Flutter
-Friendly mush
-Reading time ♥️
-“I saved your new boots.”
-Soul-tugging
-Mason’s shower singing
-Teddy bear
-Christmas
-Cami
-THE Kiss (so many feels!)
-“Great. Now my relationship will end up in a book.”

I totally loved this book. It had all the feels of a good romance. This is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone.

Poppy and Kent meet at Kent's ranch in Texas. Poppy's dad is marrying the ranch's housekeeper and moving in. Poppy and Kent have instant attraction, but Kent is a single dad not looking for a relationship and Poppy lives in New York.

After the wedding, Poppy stays in touch with Mason, Kent's son, and grows closer to Kent as well. How is Kent going to keep her in the friend zone if he falls in love with her?.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
