I really enjoyed this story. At the very beginning I was a bit unsure, but I was quickly drawn into the story and came to love the characters. This story has emotional highs and lows that tugged at my heart. I now want to go reread the book about her brother and hope to get her sister's story in the future.

I wanted to like this book. It had the makings of a good story, it was well-written, and I've read the book after it (A Daring Proposal) and LOVED it. This fell flat for me though.

Anna and Harry fell into insta-love, despite being very different from one another and having very few things in common. Harry fell in love immediately, and while He Falls First is one of my favorite tropes, I usually like if there's a reason he falls? Anna kept telling herself she didn't love him but she had about as much insta-love as him, again, without any real reason for it.

About halfway through the book picked up and got more interesting. Various plot points picked up, the relationship was actually tested, and I enjoyed the book for a while. But then... Anna and Harry really didn't mesh. I was convinced that Harry was obsessed with Anna (not in love, obsessed in a cringy way) and Anna spent a long time convincing herself she was in love with Harry,
but the fact of the matter was he hated society and wanted to be a rector forever and she loved London and all the excitement that came with it. And the solution was simply that she changed for him. She gave up her dreams and these important parts of who she was simply because she saw her friend happy and convinced herself she loved Harry. I HATED her changing for a man she spent most of the book feeling lukewarm about. I absolutely got the ick.

There were some cute moments at the end with side characters that made it satisfying, but my least favorite part about this romance book was the romance, so it's safe to say it wasn't a favorite for me. I'll stick with the incredible third book and try never to think about this one again.

This was another sweet romance. Harry and Anna couldn't be more different at first glance. He is the rector of a country parish, she loves London society and can't imagine living anywhere else. I really struggled to like these characters… Anna was so frustrating almost until the end, but thankfully we see her grow along the way. Both hero and heroine grew on me over the course of the book, despite their flaws, a parson hero who's genuinely devout, and a heroine who was forced to face up to her true nature. I love a good slow burn romance but this one was just lacking in the romance area and left me wanting more. It was well written with some misunderstandings & secrets, a highwayman mystery & of course a guaranteed happy ending.

Why do I do this to myself??

I love these stories, but my tears come too easily! So here I sit, red puffy eyes from crying, only to once again to close my heart so I can heal before picking up another book.
Jennie’s writing always brings me to tears. Which obviously means it’s one of my favorites!! I have been postponing reading this book… not because I didn’t love the first one, but because I needed to have the time to read it in one sitting. I knew I would not be able to stop until it was 100% finished.
The storyline was amazing with twists and turns and hope and faith.. just beautiful story telling!

Loved the story of Anna and Harry in this Regency Romance filled with surprises and a bit of mystery. Anna made her first appearance in the author's last book, A Regrettable Proposal, as the spunky sister of Stratford, the Earl of Worthing. After meeting Anna in the last book, it was fun to follow along as she follows her heart and determines what she really wants. Highly recommend, especially to those that love period romance novels!
