It lives up to it's title. I like the things the movie changed, but I think the book works better. It's breezier.

I picis up after seeing the film adaptation and I was pleasantly surprised with how close to the source material they'd stayed. There were a few differences- most notably the love story between Dave and Katie (every good film needs a good love interest, right?) and the origin story of Big Daddy and Hit Girl (I thought the comic was much grittier and heartbreaking) -but nothing so major that it made me go "Hmm, yeah, the film is way better!"
Maybe it's because it's the idea? Getting a superhero costume online and going out to fight crime in your spare time? Like Dave says in the book- who hasn't dreamed about doing that? Kick Ass gives you that dream situation, the one almost every kid has fantasised about, and puts it in the real world- with real situations, real "bad guys" and real lessons learnt.

I liked the movie better for this one. Kick-Ass/Dave was a much better character in the movie, while he was pretty insufferable in the book. 3 stars mostly for Hit Girl, who was by far the best thing about the book.

I read this because I don’t really read comic books, didn’t love it but it was fun, had a nice ending and took only a couple hours to read.

I must admit I was very surprised at how good this was. A crazy-ass plotline involving incredibly fun and off-the-wall characters is always a winner. But when you spice it up with ingredients such as humor, gore, and pathos, you know you are in for a real treat. Kick-ass is a delightful book that deserves every iota of hype it has received.

I love kick ass so much, it's so awesome.
Does anyone know what order the books go in??

Anyways- I saw the movie before I read the book, and it's pretty spot on. I got into kick ass because of Chloë Grace Moretz (queen).
The ending was a bit rushed though... I hate to say that I prefer the way the movie ended but it's true.
Also, I don't really like the art in this book. That's probably just me being a picky artist but I thought it was low quality. I've definitely seen other graphic novels with way better art.

THAT CLIFFHANGER THO.
Gotta get the next book ASAP!

This is the first book I read for the Bout of Books read-a-thon 13.0 (-:
