Too seedy for me. Didn't get far in, but didn't want to carry on.

WOW! Just WOW! This book is a masterpiece by an author at the height of his powers. My favourite Ellroy so far. Fantastic cast of characters and a very entertaining plot and thoroughly enjoyable.
This being Ellroy it is not for the easily offended especially where language and racial prejudices are concerned, the book being 1950's-60's set the language is of its time.
Hopefully the rest of the series is superb too, looking forward to seeing where it goes from here in Ellory's vision (know where it goes historically).

Starts to drag at around the 3/5ths point when the Cuban exile subplots take the foreground. Hoover was amusing.
