A Mexican reindition of Rebecca that is also a metaphor for colonization, sexualisation of Latinx people by oppressors and white supremacy. Gory content ahead but nonetheless a book that will be devoured.

Really enjoyed this atmospheric,  moody mystery.  Several parts had me audibly saying "ew, gross..." to myself (in a good,  horror kind of way!), and others had my heart fluttering - not just with suspense 😉! Loved the setting, of which the title really nails it.  Mexican Gothic sums it up.  The 1950s Mexico is romantic and mysterious,  and I loved it.  I think the audiobook might have taken this down a notch for me.  The narrator just didn't sell it for me on this one.  Would've  been a perfect opportunity for multiple narrators. Wishing I woul  have just read the physical book and let my imagination do that work.  Otherwise though, this is a great read for spooky season!
