“No one said her name like that. Like it was more than her. Like it was the wide world.”

What am I doing? Oh you know, just adding this to the list of books that I’m making my whole ✨personality✨

I love, love, loved this story! It’s feminist and clever with serious girl gang vibes. I love my historical romance with a side of autonomy, determination & humour {à la Tessa Dare} and Sarah delivered on all fronts!

She also laid the groundwork for an impressive new series. These characters felt vivid and real in no time. I’m already anticipating each of their books!

Mary Jane Wells read this audio and I want to know who gave her the right to make an American accent sound so damn attractive

At first I wasn't sure about this book. I had trouble relating to the leading lady. It seemed a bit a-historical for a historical novel, but as it developed, it became a-historical in the best way and I really enjoyed it. It is full of spice, ups and downs, and mysteries and schemes. This is the first in a series, but it is connected to one of Sarah MacLean's previous series and I felt a bit lost, especially in the beginning, because readers are supposed to have already been introduced to the main characters via her sister's story.

This was a lot of fun. I loved the lady vigilante theme and the supportive friendships between the women. I do think the story dragged a bit when our love interests continued to go back and forth on the same big issue without making any progress, but it all came together in the end.

I also liked the little cameos from MacLean's previous books. Perfect balance between enjoying the extra little connections without missing anything if you haven't read the backlist. I absolutely loved seeing little references to The Bareknuckle Bastards and I'm digging through the backlist hoping to find stories about Sesily's sisters. I'm certain I'll find more gems!

I am anxiously awaiting reading the stories of the other Hell's Belles.

Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for providing an eARC for review.

An entertaining, if somewhat simple, historical romp. I appreciated the low angst but also maybe would have liked a bit more action? I listened to the audio version and the narrator is WONDERFUL. I look forward to listening to more in the series in the future!

Alright book, I liked Sesily and how she was independent and strong and was never just a damsel in distress, which was a nice change.
