Reading this felt like watching something happen from far away through a frosted window… maybe there is something there that is interesting, but too much is obscured. And none of the characters have depth.

Everything is fair in love and war, until you fall in love with your rapist.

While I don't agree with Rand's philosophies, she is a stellar writer.

It was good, I would fuck with it but then get bored at parts. Had too many others on the queue so I “paused”, now I’m quitting.

Well it’s been days I’ve started reading this book and now I’m having a doubt whether I’m going to complete it ever or not.
Now the author’s introduction itself is 8 pages long. Isn’t that wee bit longer than it should be? Initially I found introduction also interesting but now by the mid of it I was lost.

This one is tough for me, because when I first read it as a sophomore in college, I would have given it a 5. I recently re-read it and I give it a 3 the second time around... so I've decided to compromise. Some of the ideas that were very refreshing for a young, insecure Anna are now kind of annoying.

LOL I had given this 5 stars in high school before I realized how much I dislike objectivism

If readgasm ever becomes a word, this book gives you that. It is a incredible book with incredible story and characters. The characters in this book are so strong and feel so complete in themselves that they seem to represent a set of concepts that they are living for. This is exactly what Rand has done. She has done incredible research for this book as I got to know and felt while reading it. Also, the character sketch is near perfect.
This book is based on an incredible philosophy called Objectivism and is also called Randism (which she dislikes). This philosophy is hard to digest. The hero of the book lives this philosophy.
The book is lengthy but if you get to read paragraphs like -

The rocks went on into the depth, unchanged. They began and ended in the sky. So that the world seemed suspended in space, an island floating on nothing, anchored to the feet of the man on the cliff.

I do not mind the length. The read is crisp and the sentences are beautifully crafted. No wonder she has origins in Russia. I had so many wonderful moments in the book that I have lost count now. You fall in love with each of the characters despite what they represent. SOmetimes it was hard to take sides. The book challenges our traditional idea of morality.

You are the most egotistical and kindest man I know. And that doesn't make sense.
