This is a really cute romance about Daxton, a former tv star teenager (now lawyer) and Kaylin, a former huge fan of him (also now lawyer).

It is about grief and resilience.
So it can be triggering.

really liked this one! It was very emotional (loss of parents) but the romance was cute and the relationship between Dax and his sister Emmy was so precious. Same with Kailyn and Emmy.

Very sweet with a well treated grief storyline and some solid spice thrown in. Surprised that I didn’t find Emmy annoying as I often find romance authors have a hard time writing realistic teenagers. I was a bit disappointed with how not super steamy it was after reading in the description that it was 2019 Goodreads spiciest book of the year or something. But still so good and liked the second chance romance.

Dead parents. Heroine with a chip on her shoulder. Not in the mood for such a tragic backstory.

I finally finished a book this year! (Granted it’s not for lack of trying. I’ve just been extremely busy!) This was a cute first read.

We follow Kailyn and Daxton who meet in law school but after a misunderstanding, Kailyn is no longer on speaking terms with him, however the two are forced back into each other’s lives when Kailyn gets involved in a custody battle between Daxton and his aunt over his sister.

I had an overall good time with this book. It was a nice read while I was sick. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline a lot. While you obviously knew where the story was going to go it was still an enjoyable time.

I think what I struggled with was maybe the writing style. I hate being that person but it’s something I’m picky with at times in romances. It felt too over the top and too cheesy at times that it could lose what makes a story feel real (but also I’m reading a cheesy romance so what can I expect really?)

I also feel like the characters were a little one dimensional. I still liked them but they just didn’t have a lot of depth to them which is what kept this from being a five star. They didn’t really have any internal conflict which ended up making the same characters at the end of the book as they were at the beginning.

Overall though I would recommend this. If you’re looking for a sweet cheesy romance definitely pick this one up!

A hallmark romance of a book. The characters and their problems are a little shallow, but they resolve them and everyone's happy in the end. If you're looking for some fluffy romance with a little bit of smut this would fit the bill, but it won't satisfy the urge if you like your characters to have depth. I especially didn't appreciate that one character is mourning the death of someone very close, and it's used as a tool for the romance but otherwise doesn't come across in the character. There's also a scene where the successful lawyer adult man is bewildered by periods which felt very unbelievable as he's supposed to be experienced with women...and it's 2022. A real romantic hero would be completely capable of doing your period shopping for you and not need a woman to swoop in. Just sayin'.
