CW: rape

RAPE SOLD AS ROMANCE

This was such an uncomfortable read. It is the story of a rapist from the rapists point of view. Warren doesn't understand he's a rapist and keeps justifying he's actions as "helping" Bridgette and whatever. The day after he raped her (the first time) he even says that he did "nothing wrong" even though she had repeatedly told him to stop throughout the rape scene.

Every single time they have sex after that (and it is described) she expresses some sort of discomfort about the situation and every single time he forces her to do what she's uncomfortable with. At one point he also locks the doors of his car so she can't escape just because she didn't want to hold his hand. He then forces her to hold his hand.

The worst part is that it is sold as romance and not a psychological thriller about a rapist and he's victim and how being raped messes with your head.

Here's an excerpt from the book. It's after the morning after he raped her and she's mad at him.

"I sit on the edge of my bed and contemplate the night before, going over every single move in my head wondering where I went wrong. The only thing I can conclude is that I did nothing wrong. I did everything right. And this scared her because she's not used to guys taking control over her. I made her feel weak. She doesn't like to feel weak. She obviously has serious power issues and I messed with her head. This should probably make me feel guilty, but actually I'm proud. I love that I got to her. I love that I'm slowly figuring her out. And the best part is, I have a feeling that she'll be coming back for a repeat. Maybe not tonight, but she'll be back because she's human and every human has a weakness and I think I just discovered what hers is. Me."

Warren is entitled, controlling and delusional, but apparently we're supposed to see him as sympathetic because Bridgette isn't a nice person either.

If this was marketed as a psychological thriller or horror I'd probably like it, but since it's sold as romance I can't give it more than one star.

THIS IS NOT ROMANCE. THIS IS AN ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP.

It takes being loved to know how to love.

Warren is super pissed when he finds out that a girl is moving in with him and his roommates, Ridge and Brennan. Warren HATES Bridgette, especially because she's super hot and really confusing. When tension builds between Bridgette and Warren, things start to heat up. Can they learn to build each other up instead of tearing each other down? And is a mean girl like Bridgette even capable of love?
After reading Maybe Someday, I was so excited to get a closer look at what happens between Warren and Bridgette behind closed doors. This novella is the perfect follow-up to Maybe Someday. It was hilarious, sexy, heartbreaking and beautiful all at once. I can't wait to read what happens next in Maybe Now! I recommend this novella to anyone who has read and enjoyed Maybe Someday.
