This is a fairly light, easy-paced romance novel that was really easy to listen to while multi-tasking. With its premise that love is real and that romcoms have real value, this book had Book Lovers by Emily Henry vibes, but wasn't as well executed. One of my favorite parts was actually the author's note at the end about her perspective on love stories getting such a bad rap when we should actually celebrate books that show us how to love better. I do enjoy and appreciate that Center's portrayal of romance always tries to rely on depth and consideration for others rather than spice.

I would have expected my 3rd Katherine Center read to be my favorite due to the main characters being (screen)writers, but I think that I prefer Things You Save in a Fire, followed by The Bodyguard, followed by this. The characters (especially Charly) and chemistry in those other two seemed more realistic to me. This book did have some great insights into how to love better, but they mostly took place outside of the romance and in the family setting. Emma's relationships with her family and how they navigated tragedy and grief were the most impactful portions to read. I did enjoy the cameos by Jack Stapleton (a character in The Bodyguard).

Content considerations: language (a few f bombs)

I dont lnow how to feel about this. one. I did not get much chemstriy between the two main characters. But the ending was sweet.  Even the moments that were supposed to be romantic fell a bit flat for me. Also this book had a suprising amount of language and adult jokes. more then i was expecting from Mrs. Center.
Language 3/5 spice 2/5

I smiled, laughed, and cried throughout this audiobook. Such good quotables throughout, but both the main characters a little bit problematic. I really enjoyed it though because it really highlighted the complexities of being human and navigating different relationships. No spice, but truly sweet 🥰
Possibly a future auto buy author!

The Rom-Commers is written in such a way that you become so emotionally invested in the main character. You cry with her, you laugh with her, you get angry with her, etc. Katherine does such a great job writing romance in a way that feels both lighthearted and realistic.

The only thing I did not truly care for was the fact that some (not all) of the strong language used felt totally unnecessary to the story.
