This was my first 5 star of 2025. I always love Katherine Center’s writing, and the way she balances a fictional story with real life things, but this one takes the cake. I laughed, I cried, I rolled my eyes, I was frustrated, all of the emotions. I think what’s so amazing about her writing is how real her characters feel. This one the most out of any I’ve read. They feel like actual people with dimension and back story, and growth, and sometimes no growth.. it feels like I know them. This storyline felt quirky enough for me to pick it up, but the backstories and expectation of growth kept me in it. Things were highlighted. It does touch on heavier topics, but in a way that feels like it would really happen. Like when you sit down with a friend.

This was a hard one for me! I really enjoyed a lot of this book and the writing! The audiobook narrator was also really good! But Emma and Charlie were a little insufferable. Like I enjoyed their banter and how Emma could read him. Charlie was just kind of grumpy and mean instead of like being honest and Emma was kind of selfish while trying to be selfless! It almost felt like they should be friends, like I missed part of the romantic connection. This book took the miscommunication trope to the next level but it was almost like just blatant lying lol. So I guess 4 stars before I read it fast and enjoyed it. It is an odd on for me, also the physical book is gorgeous!

Two quotes I liked:

"Whatever story you tell yourself about your life, that's the one that'll be true"

"If you wait for other people to light you up, then I guess you're at the mercy of darkness"

I found this book quite frustrating at times, as both main characters refuse to communicate with one another despite being aware of the importance of communication, made aware through their engagement with love and relationships.

I enjoyed this one but it's not my favorite from this author. There were certain things that I felt remained unresolved that irked me.
Like the very mean comments Charlie made about Emma to his ex-wife, Logan just gets away with keeping such a special video of his friend locked away for so many years, and where did Emma's self consciousness about her hair and looks stem from? Also are we really just going to breeze right through that car accident like they legit were not just hanging basically off the cliff of a mountain for 10 minutes!?!
I also was not a huge fan on the whole Hollywood scene but I get that was a huge part of Charlie's life and it did fit well into his storyline.

I do like the way this was written, aside from the cliché romance lines thrown in every so often, I felt like it flowed well. I enjoyed Emma and her family along with getting to learn about her childhood with her sister. I loved how Sylvie stepped up for Emma and hit pause on her life for Emma to get to live out her dream. I loved the dad's positive energy and optimistic look on life. Overall, I would recommend this read!
