she was interesting enough for this be worth; he was annoying and dislikeable and rude for at least a lot of it or at least it felt like a lot

i cried several times

i think this might be my new favorite

this shit was a slow burn without being a slow ur  and it was fucking amazing

note: after apple picking - robert frost

really had room to be longer (ideally to expand on the characters since a lot felt off screen (funny for a book about screenwriters)) and it wouldn’t have been unwelcome

Hollywood-centric romances aren't really my favorite, or celebrity romances. I've read two by Katherine Center so far and she actually does them in a way that manages to keep my attention. The characters and settings feel grounded and interesting enough that I find myself drawn in despite not being drawn to the tropes of the sub-genre. This one lost me a bit towards the end, but if you want a no-spice contemporary romance I do recommend this and any of Katherine Center's other books. Even when I'm not in the mood for them when I pick them up, they always end up charming me through.

Wow wow wow wow wow. I did not expect this. I thought I was in for fun-loving read, not an emotional rollercoaster! The Rom-Commers is everything. It has everything.

It is a love letter to writing. It is a lesson in gratitude and living each day fully. It is hopeful and inspiring and so full of love and warmth that it could light up a room.

It is a rom-com, of course. It’s predictable and it’s tense and it’s a slow burn. You know everything will be okay, but your heart still gets stuck in your throat for a while there. Did I want it to be all happiness and rainbows throughout? Of course, but we got there in the end.

This book is simple in its plot and insightful in its lessons. It is beautiful. I loved it.

Touching. Humorous. Happily ever after. What else could you ask for in a rom-com?
Guinea pigs? Some dumbo who awarded himself the best worst nickname of all time?

I truly did enjoy every single character that this story brought to life. Katherine Center was right - everyone needs to love this book!

Thank you to the publisher for providing me an eARC to review! This one is out June 11.

Rating: 5/5 stars

Emma is an aspiring screenwriter whose career was derailed by personal tragedy—but things might be about to turn around when she is hired to fix a terrible rom-com script with her favorite writer, Charlie Yates.

This book is, first and foremost, a love letter to the genre of romance and I am HERE FOR IT. Watching Charlie come around to the importance of joyful stories was such a beautiful and meaningful character arc it genuinely made me cry, and the awards show scene was one of my favorite moments I’ve read in a book this year (or maybe ever).

Also, this book is DELIGHTFULLY funny. I found myself literally laughing out loud so many times (even though there are definitely some super sad moments and pretty big CWs as well, see below). The chemistry and banter between Emma and Charlie was SO good, and I was rooting for them SO HARD the whole way through.

Highly HIGHLY recommend this (ideally after THE BODYGUARD because there are some fun Easter eggs/cameos if you care about that sort of thing!)

CW: Cancer; death of parent; chronic illness/disability; medical content; grief; mild sexism
