Interesting! A horror manga about 8 students being trapped in their school by the spirit of a student who committed suicide two months ago. The student’s spirit is hiding among the 8 of them and they must remember who it was.

We have a paranormal who dun it! Great start that puts you immediately into the thrills and chills. The dialogue is simplistic, but the paranormal aspect and the history between the kids is intriguing enough to leave you wanting more.

ARC provided by the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
As a longtime lover of school horrors, I was very much looking forward to this manga, and it blew me away with its eerieness! This psychological thriller (with art from the creator of Your Lie in April!) follows eight students who find themselves trapped in their school on exam day three months after a classmate took their life. As they try to break out, throwing desks and chairs at the door and windows, they realize that among the eight of them, only seven are supposed to be alive. One of them is the student who took their life, but with them all forgetting who killed themselves and why... who could it be?
This book was amazingly creepy and I got literal chills reading it. I loved the slow build as you learn who the characters are and dip your toes into the story, but when this book picks up, it picks up. I was so completely immersed in the mystery of trying to figure out who it is and how the others might escape or remember that I was surprised when it ended. I need more! I highly recommend it and will definitely be keeping an eye out for volume 2. This is perfect for anyone who was a fan of jrpg pixel horrors, like Misao or Corpse Party!
HUGE trigger warning for suicide & death! The entire book centers around it, so please skip this if that will trigger or upset you.

I received a free advanced reader copy of A SCHOOL FROZEN IN TIME from NetGalley and Kodansha in exchange for an honest review.
I was drawn to this title by the interesting premise, but the execution fell a little short. This could be due to slower pacing often associated with serialized works, so I hope that more time will be paid to character development in subsequent volumes. But the stakes were not established well, and it was easy to get lost in conversations between characters. Naoshi Arawakawa's art helped keep me interested in this book, but some of his backgrounds and character expressions were a little stiff at times.
Very early on, we're introduced to the eight main characters, and because this cast was so large, it was difficult to get a sense of any of their personalities, wants, and needs. They were all visually distinct, but I found it difficult to keep track of them throughout the book since none of them received much development and there were so many of them.
Although the students end up in a contained world, it was difficult to feel like this was detrimental since the "normal" world wasn't well established. It felt like they went from one sparsely populated world to another, so there wasn't much of a reason for them to return to the "normal" world. (I couldn't imagine what they had to lose, which is usually a keystone for mysteries like this story. The characters mentioned that their situation resembled that of the characters' in The Drifting Classroom, but because of the lack of world development, that comparison fell short.)
However, I am still a little invested in the main mystery, especially considering what happened to one of the characters about 2/3 of the way through this book, so I hope to give the next volume a chance.

The premise of this book revolves around the mystery that someone committed suicide, so I would caution readers that that initial premise could also imply self-harm, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempt, untreated mental health issues, etc.
