The story is interesting, has some unforeseen plot turns, and depicts a now-uncommon setting of 150 years ago. The writing is full of morals and lessons though, which was a turnoff for me. Many story arcs go on for too long, making the read slower and more boring than necessary.

This was such an emotional rollercaster ride!
I often found myself smiling over those naive and good-hearted 'little women', how they dealt with their small and big struggles and always learned valuable lessons about life and the importance of a decent character , but also had to shed a few tears at certain times.
Yet, a warmth wrapped my heart throughout the whole story (yes.. I know how cheesy this sounds x"D) and I'm sure, though we're living in another century now, I've also learned my shed of lessons.
And isn't this one of the major reasons we read books?

What a disappointment this book was!
I have opened it a few times already, always giving up during the first chapter. Then came the film with its amazing trailer and casting - so I decided to watch it. And it fulfilled all of my expectations.
After falling in love with the movie (or rather, both 2019 and 1994 versions) I decided to finally read the book, despite the previous unsuccessful attempts. It turned out my first impression was spot-on for the whole book. The story I adored in the movie(s), I barely registered throughout the book. Instead, I only felt being force-fed the author's opinions and morals.
I cannot help but compare it with Anne of Green Gables. Where Montgomery manages to 'teach her lesson' through a beautiful story and lovable characters, Alcott buried her story under endless, tedious and condescending preaching.

Fun light-hearted read. Would recommend if you like wholesome content with a little bit of sad.

I listened to it through Phoebe Reads a Mystery podcast. I think I’m too old to get the appeal of it. Didn’t love it like so many of my friends do.
