Really a 4.5. Some parts were duller than others and some were incredibly insightful. Maybe it's because I'm not a Californian, but I do have my own crossing story.

Not interested in subject matter. Felt like history book in the worst way possible. Couldn't make me care

I found the topic of this book, and Didion's reporting on it, very interesting. I thought the part where she discusses her own book within it was a little confusing and unnecessary, although maybe if I had read the book I would be more understanding. Generally really solid.
