I never quite warmed up to this novel about the tragic loss of a teenage girl, but the ending really worked for me.

A internal dialogue story of how a girl and the people closest to her deal with grief. The sad part is most people go into this thinking it’s a mystery so the rating suffer.

Sally is 14 years old when her older sister dies. We follow along over the course of the next 15 years as she deals with her grief. It's a coming of age meets grief meets dark humor novel.

What I really enjoyed about this one is that it's written as if Sally is talking to her sister, Kathy. The informal and witty and sassy writing made this story at once sad and heartwarming and funny. A true rollercoaster of a ride. I really enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down, largely reading it in two sittings.

If you liked EVERYTHING I NEVER TOLD YOU by Celeste Ng or TELL THE WOLVES I'M HOME by Carol Rifka Brunt I think this one would be right up your alley!

I’m always torn when I add a book because of a fellow book loving friend recommendation, and it ends up not being what I’d hoped it to be. Or maybe I just hype it up a bit too much.

NOTES ON YOUR SUDDEN DISAPPEARANCE is a living story with themes of family, love, and the grief that comes from a loss.

Sally is left to grieve after tragically losing her high-school sister Kathy in a car accident. Kathy’s boyfriend Billy was driving, and he too is left grieving this unthinkable loss.

I enjoyed the audiobook, which was narrated by Jesse Vilinsky, who did a great job portraying the emotions brought on by such a loss and the guilt that comes from a tragedy like this.

I found the perspective distracting for the first maybe 25% of the book (I kept switching into full 2nd person and thinking "you" was Sally when it was Kathy), and then there were shifts in the timeline that threw me off, but then there I was at the end, genuinely weeping. Who knows!
