Pathfinder Dass Leffbrook, Jedi Rooper Nitani, and prospector Sky Graf set out to win the Hyperspace Chase and be the first to map the way to the mysterious Planet X. But hyperspace prospectors might not be the only ones seeking the same goals…

Tessa Gratton takes us on an adventure through a galaxy that will surprise our heroes at every turn along the way!

Ancient navigation! Family bonds! Challenging beliefs! Batuu! And finding purpose, duty, and identity!

The story is beautifully crafted and deals with some remarkably deep themes in a very real and grounded way. There are moments where the characters find their ways and beliefs challenged. The adventure through the galaxy puts them to the test and sometimes the answers aren’t what they seem. The relationships are more than surface level and surprisingly layered and mature for what one might expect from a middle-grade book. As I’ve always said, just because there is a target audience for this story doesn’t mean those of us outside of that target can’t enjoy it as well! There is plenty of Star Wars action and exploration along with a few familiar places that I especially enjoyed.

This is a must-read for anyone out there feeling a little lost finding who you are. The characters learn, grow, and come to realize what’s really important. There aren’t many better lessons that Star Wars can give us.

There's so much I could say about this book and it would take me a million years to type it all out because Tessa does an incredibly flawless job of reeling you into the story, making you love these characters from the get-go, and then taking you on a journey with them. In terms of Star Wars plot, it was very satisfying in a number of different ways (tying in multiple plot threads and character arcs), but also just as a regular ol' book, it was a lovely read because of the heart that is infused with each character and with their individual stories.

Sky is one of my favorite middle grade/YA protagonists now because they're a complex and interesting character with a lot of emotional depth and range, but also because this book presents a blatantly nonbinary character in an effortless and natural way. For young kids that may not know what being nonbinary means or who may not yet realize that they are nonbinary themselves, I know this book and Sky specifically will mean a lot to them. And that alone is enough to make me love this book to the moon and back.

Also, Sky and Rooper are adorable and I want a whole other book dedicated to them specifically.

When it comes to the High Republic Era in Star Wars, never skip the Junior and YA novels. They have so much in them that is important (learned some more about the development of hyperspace lanes!). I have loved every HR book so far and this one does not disappoint.

I'm not sure how this is supposed to "finish" phase 2, but it was a very good book.

I was glad to see Rooper and Dass again. Sky was also a nice new character, and loved the little tidbit about their body dysphoria. And to see Fel Ix again, and being more developed, was a treat.

The MG and YA novels have definitely been the best of this phase. Now onto phase 3 and back to the real action!
