When you steal a book from the giant box of books your sister has stashed in her closet, you never know if it's going to be good or not. I had never heard of this author or this book. I expected it to be pretty awful, and I was pleasantly surprised. It seems like the book is a little long, but I can't really complain about pacing, or characters, or anything that would normally be a problem in an overlong book. My worst complaint is that it might be a little overly detailed and this book feels like mostly background. Definitely grabbing the other two in the series from the library. (They were unfortunately not in the box)

Well... it *is* better than Twilight. I particularly enjoyed the linguistics and italic handwriting references.

The author is almost there with having a good book. A bit sappy in some places. I wanted to read to find out what would happen, but the book just did not click, but almost...I hear the second one is better.

Lisa Mangum's writing makes for an intelligent, compelling story. Once you crack the truth about Dante and the members of Zero Hour, that's when the story gets really interesting. Trust me, don't just go off the description, let Lisa Mangum's poetic story bring you in.

Excellent book until the end when you realize that there is more. You then better get yourself to the book store, unfortunately mine was sold out and needed to order.

This is by far one of my favorite books. Though not usually into romance novels, something about this story intrigued me. Maybe it was the fact the plot was similar to the book i was writing, or maybe it's just because I like science fiction. Either way this book was amazing. The story of Abby and Dante is one that felt real, not like a made up fantasy. The emotions portrayed in the book were realistic and not overdone like some other romance novels. With all the twists and turns in the plot i was captivated, but it wasn't so chock full of information I couldn't keep up. I think everyone should read this book, because throughout the love and loss was a book that everyone could enjoy.

Average teen drawn to mysterious, beautiful, dangerous guy who just happens to be basically immortal ... sound familiar? This read very much like Twilight -- especially in the beginning -- but I was pleased to find that a) the characters weren't annoying (oops ... sorry Twilight fans) and b) the storyline was better, smarter (what do you expect with all the references to Shakespeare and Dante's Inferno?)

And it probably says something that I could hardly put this book down, even from the first page. Totally readable and very well written (loved the word choice throughout, but wow, the prologue was downright lyrical).

My complaints? Hopefully this isn't too much of a spoiler (but seriously, the book is called The Hourglass Door): this book deals with time travel -- and any stories with time travel in them leave me with the feeling that my brain's going to explode trying to contemplate the paradoxes associated with it. And secondly (and this was a beef I had with Twilight, too), what's with all the teenage girls going for the dangerous guys? And what's with all the kissing?? (Yeah, I am so not a teenage girl, am I?)

Also, a warning: you are going to want to pick up the sequel immediately after reading this, and you won't be able to get it until summer 2010. Where's that time machine when you need it??

Lol, if it were possible, I'd rate this a 3.5. Almost a 4. Have the second book on hold at the library.
