This is book 4 so spoilers are impossible to avoid from books 1-3, go read those!

So each book of the Reemergence has balanced phenomenal cosmic powers, social upheaval, expanded the range of species and mythologies, oh and made me laugh along the way. This book does all of those things and more. Tesser develops more as the Dragon of life and as a father. Mattie's heritage and role in the world gets explored and expanded. Astrid is well a mixture of amazing, cute, and well a dragon. The Trolls are a fascinating example of evolution and rigid society, and I loved every minute of it. I am just finishing this as book 5 comes out so onwards to a new story and a new dragon can't wait to see what's in store.

I loved this story because I love Dragons in all their various forms, and I especially loved this one because the protagonist is definitely a power fantasy character, but it didn't derail the plot because the character had to learn about the new setting, emotionally, and how the world had gone awry. The Dragon, had gravitas and grit as each scene needed. I look forward to continuing the series.

I would give this book a 3.5 because overall it was enjoyable. The characters were overall enjoyable and so was the tone of voice of the narrator and the plot. However, I did take issue with one thing; the dialogue of the female characters. Matty was described as a very intelligent women who got job at a highly prestigious biochemical company even before she graduated from her grad school. Her actions can show this intelligence but all she and other female characters seem to talk about is men. Perhaps this is not truly an issue since this is partially a romance novel, but it really seems that they could discuss other things as well.
