This PAINS me. Greatly.

My hopes were sky high going into this book - going by the reviews, booktok, bookstagram etc - it was such an anticipated read for me. But it fell so flat.

If you're looking for a cutesy love story, honestly look elsewhere. This book is 98% about wedding planning and 2% romance. I swear I could run a wedding myself after reading this book, it goes into that much detail.

I need someone to explain to me like I'm a toddler about what even attracted these people to each other at the start - he has an attitude problem a mile long, and she's so irritating and overly-familiar in a not-cute way. I found them both so unlikeable.

I did like the way the normal gender-based attitudes had been subverted - she was the one "in control" so to speak, and he did lots of pining etc. However, I do not care what gender you are - picking people up and dropping them again on a whim is not attractive. She would leave this guy hanging for whenever she showed back up again, or when she was not busy, and he was hanging around just waiting on her to throw him some crumbs.

And again, someone explain to me how saying those three little words MUST equal getting married. We are in the year 2024, we do not need a marraige to equal HEA. This left such a sour taste for me.

The tattoo stuff was cute, and there were some funny moments, but its an overall nope from me. 2.75 stars at best, but I'll round it up to 3 stars because its only January and I'm trying to be nice.

I enjoyed this book. It was such a sappy love story. I HATE books that jump from present to past. I only wanted to read Ama‘s POV. I liked Elliot, but also did not understand why he was such an ASS! I know this is a grumpy sunshine, but God, I hated his attitude! Reading his POV - I dragged through them. I only was interested in the big wedding! When Emma‘s accident happened – I was kind of hooked! Also, how did she NOT KNOW it was a tub?! I knew from the moment it was SAID. ugh Girl! Overall, this was a cute book, but I just hate how the book was back-and-forth.

I liked it, I really did. I just feel the end and build up didn’t fully click. This whole book is about her commitment issues, and I’m glad Elliot is saying no to her proposal over and over while they officially date, I just wanted a little more of a conversation about the last two years and why they even like each other in the first place. I want to see growth in who they’re becoming, not just convenience in getting back together.

Also I felt a little disconnected between who Ama was in her own head vs Elliot’s POV.  I get that that’s how life works, but she was so much harder to get/snarky/slipping away after sex in his past POV, and in her own current time POV, she was awkward and stuttering and blubbering about half the time. His POV made her seem much more unlikable in the first random hook ups and I usually just left his POV feeling so bad for him getting walked out on and understanding his rudeness from the beginning chapters with her POVs.  But also why was he so so rude all the time to everyone?

I did like the Ama eventually standing up to ex boss Whitney and also her team of ex step siblings/her moms 16 marriages.
I didn’t like hazel talking bad about ama on ig when she was in the HOSPITAL, and I didn’t like how Elliot said Mar/stepsister was the hottest girl he’d ever seen but then like .. settled with her “annoying and peppy short sister” ama? Weird
