Having read and reviewed The Near Witch before reading this short story, I feel grateful to have continued the series. I felt The Near Witch was lacking character development, but this was certainly attained here. This story improved my interest and affection for the central character, as well as introducing the reader to the different fantasy settings V.E. Schwab can write so well.Â

Wonderful backstory for a mysterious character from The Near Witch. I enjoyed the extra content, but it is not necessary to read this before The Near Witch. An extra treat for fans!
