Totally young Spider-Man gets a foe (and fellow science-fair rival) in The Clash. The Clash is home-schooled and music/science cool! He's Spidey's biggest fan! Until the Webhead snubs him. Jerkface. He's gonna pay! Aunt May seems particularly out of it in this series. I guess one would be to miss out on the nephew being a superhero thing, but golly. Also, she is really mad at Spider-man for no reason. Darn him for being there and helping! Looking forward to reading more. Can't recall reading about such a young Spider-man.

Peter's early Spider-Man adventures, his first fan and first enemy.
It was interesting seeing his frame of mind when he first became Spider-Man, as well as the reason behind his trademark snarky remarks. I was surprised to see that.
I wasn't a fan of the art, but found the story engaging.

Why is it necessary to re-write Spider-man's origin? Also, how does it even make sense? On one hand the illustrations and character design is very retro, poorly mimicking the 1960's style. On the other hand we have the internet, youtube, and cell phones. Also the artwork for CLASH, the new and unnecessary villain, is very Spider-Gwen New school with load vibrant colors. I guess you could say it "clashed" and maybe that was the point, but it bothered me the entire time. Purposeful or not it was nonsensical and did I mention UNNECESSARY?!
Secondly, why is Peter Parker an asshole? He is just a completely unlikable selfish jerk until about the last 5 pages.
Lastly, this whole story could have been told in two issues instead of dragging it on and on and on and on. Uncle Ben is dead and Peter is sad because Uncle Ben is dead which makes Peter sad because Uncle Ben is dead....

Retelling of the Spider-man origin story updated for the 2010s. Plus a new Spidie wannabe.
Great art and remains true to the original without feeling old fashioned.
(One thing I wished they'd left out from the original: Peter entering JJJ's office and Betty Brant proclaiming he's cute. Peter's 15 and still in school, and she's an undisclosed age but a working woman. Feels a bit skeevy.)
