A book that felt kind of aimless and then has a sharp hairpin turn at the end that feels like it’s only designed to hurt you

Such a sad, desolate book!
But very well written, with a good plot line that is sadly relevant to today's audiences

Heavy handed modern retelling of flowers for algernon, but this time infuse it with environmentalism and tech and sprinkle in allusions to apocalypse. A bit of a wank for people who want to feel pessimistic abiut the world. Typical Powers writing- strong and affecting and makes the book worth the read.

The love story between this father and son got me, but I didn’t love the balance of the plot.

If I were reviewing this in comparison with all of his books, I think might be a B. But I'm reviewing it in the context of every book I'm reading or have read so it's 5 stars.
