Illustrations are wonderful and inventive! Kids will love the detail and the imaginative vehicles. Sadly, the poems are more pedestrian and don't have the imaginative use of language to match the illustrations.

Kids will love this book - the poems are catchy and clever and the illustrations keep your eyes glued on the page! Which car do you want? Mine is a tie between The Banana Split Car and The Supersonic Ionic Car (hmmm, maybe never being late again) and Rubber-Band Car (jump over traffic???)
Very fun read!

4.5 This book of crazy, wacky poems is just plain fun. I plan to use it as a writing starter/prompt with my fourth graders....read them a poem without sharing the illustration, get them to sketch what they see in their minds eye from the words alone, then share the illustration. I can see the writing continuing on from there...some of my clever kids will fly!

Lots of imagination, reminds me of Richard Scary with all the different kinds of cars.

POEM-MOBILES is sure to keep young readers and adults occupied with Jeremy Holmes' remarkably creative and detailed illustrations of the crazy vehicles described in the fresh, creative poems penned by J. Patrick Lewis and Douglas Florian. Adults reading aloud to little readers will, even as they read, find their attention drawn to the fanciful creations on the pages. POEM-MOBILES has Seussian flair and wit sure to engage readers of all ages.

Absolutely adorable! I think my favorite (though it's so hard to pick!) is "Jurassic Park(ing)". Fantastic collaboration between poets and illustrator. Great fun!

This collaboration between two masters of children’s poetry will transport you to new and different places. Filled with cars that are amazing and wild, the humor-filled poems will delight. Visit the times of the dinosaurs, underwater driving, cars made of paper or shoes. Even cars made from bathtubs and bugs. The poetry flows fast and furious, a perfect pace for young car enthusiasts who may be surprised at how much they enjoy poems.

Lewis and Florian write with a single hand here, the poems flowing naturally from one to the other, the styles of each forming one cohesive whole. They use humor to great effect both in the titles of the poems and throughout, delighting with puns and word play. The poems are also very brief, perfect for young readers to enjoy or even memorize.

The art by Holmes plays up the humor in the poems. His busy active style has lots of motion and zany combinations. The dinosaur car looks like it could reach right off the page and grab you, the ocean page will have you floating along merrily, and the blueprint style of the contents page sets the tone early.

Perfect poems to share aloud with a class, this one may get lost in poetry collections but marketed correctly should zoom off of library shelves. Beep beep!

Written by U.S. Children's Poet Laureate and an award-winning children's poet, this book is the perfect combination of silly and wonderful. The cars described are fantastical and include a Grass Taxi, The Supersonic Ionic Car, a Fish Car, and others just as crazy. The poems are tremendous and the illustrations detailed and engaging. This a book you will read again and again joyfully.
