I have to admit, I was nervous when I started reading this book. When their family falls on tough times, Maribel, the older sister of the main character, joins a network marketing company to earn enough money to go to college. So often, network marketing is given a bad rap in mainstream media. Which is really a shame, because it is such a great way to start a business and earn extra money. Fortunately, it worked out really well for Maribel and also for Griselda. Sure, Griselda probably shouldn’t have been selling lip gloss at school, but she did learn some great lessons along the way about entrepreneurship, believing in yourself, and being brave. Thank you, Jennifer Torres, for showing the beauty and strength of network marketing. Highly recommended for grades 4 & up.

In the words of Lady Bird Johnson: Where flowers bloom, so does hope.

This is a heartwarming, wonderfully written story about the hardships that come with sudden poverty and how it impacts our relationships with ourselves, our friends, and our families. A great choice for anyone to read, but might be especially important to those going through unexpected changes in their lives so they know they’re not alone, and that things can always get better with support and a slight shift in perspective.
