I *loved* this book! Some really cool concepts explored in this story and the previous one too. My favourite part is the description of cosmic sociology and the idea that it is an answer to the Fermi paradox.

This story is a sweeping future historical epic with core characters who change in each installment. It's longer than what I normally choose read/listen to but I couldn't put it down and am well on the way with the 3rd book!

Quite a step up from book one, which really just feels like a Prologue. Entertaining almost the whole way constantly building up and increasing in excitement. The end was just ok.

What is most disappointing about this book, is that it undermines how good the first one was: http://blogendorff.ghost.io/book-reivew-the-dark-forest/

Audiobook narrated by Bruno Roubicek.

Winding, clever and occasionally a terrifying look at the things people are capable of doing when circumstances dictate. The Dark Forest carries on from The Three-Body Problem showing the crisis era where the Trisolarans have disrupted human progress and are watching everywhere. The only place they cannot see is inside the human mind. A select few are chosen to exploit this, Wall-facers who are given resources and power to do what they like but not reveal their plans to anyone.

- This book, at least the wall-facer part, is an interesting delve into human thought and nature. I'd like to say it is a thought experiment but history shows that the things the book discusses are not improbable. What would a person do to save humanity from a mortal threat?

- The descriptions of the future world and technology, especially with the limitations placed on humanity by the Trisolarans, were unique, intelligent and very cool. My favourite bits were the leaf houses and the idea of clothing that changed as the wearer required.

- The tension, especially in the last 20% of the book is incredible. The book winds and twists for most of the narrative but that last part is just bang after bang of action, plot turn and surprise. I very much enjoyed it.

Solid hard sci-fi and a fantastic sequel to The Three-Body Problem.

Started rather weak, then got completely bogged down in an inappropriate sappy love story, then picked up in the last third or so, to become somewhat exciting. Still, the weakest of the three.

Mankind prepares to defend earth from aliens on a 450-year voyage to take over and inhabit earth. A spectacular, humiliating failure, but a little twist allows humans continued life. For now.

Some interesting ideas about future life. Only improvement is that everyone becomes beautiful.

Utterly masterful in its imagination and scientific speculation - it simply demands 5 stars.

However, you must go into it expecting pages of exposition and a 95% male cast.

BUT if you have ever enjoyed hard sci-fi, you will be blown away by this masterpiece.
