i found the writing style hard to understand, so i feel like i missed out a lot of information and forgot a lot of things

Very odd structure. Some brain breaking to follow but interesting. I was more interested in the authors personal story and when she talked about her life than when she discussed culture.

A highwire act of personal and cultural recreation that is always immersive and fiercely original, but often tending towards the pretentious and eyeroll-inducing.

I nearly dnf-ed this book after the first chapter but I'm so glad I didn't. Sometimes the goal of reading diversely takes us out of our comfort zone, and this one did that for me. The choppy presentation and cultural references I wasn't really familiar with were difficult to get used to, but Google and a little perseverance helped me through.
