Okay, this was really fun. It's set in the Florida keys and the Bahamas, and Hiaasen's characters are downright zany. When a fisherman reels in a human arm, the mystery begins. I loved the different ways one of the main characters tries to discourage his neighbor's construction on a house that will block his view. I love the medical examiner who begins to realize she has some odd proclivities. I really loved the Bahamian who's trying to get back the family land his sister sold.

Really funny, really entertaining. It's started me off on a Hiaasen kick.

I really enjoy reading Carl Hiaasen. Yeah, there are so many plot twists that you will probably get whiplash. But that is the beauty of a Hiaasen novel. You expect, and want, those twists. Full of his usually quirky characters it won't take you long to read it. If you like you Carl Hiaasen you will love this book. If you don't, then why are you reading this?

I laugh out aloud at very few books, but this was one of them. I really enjoyed the story and the setting, and there were many truly funny parts!

The book wasn't bad. The characters were vividly portrayed. The only issue I found was it was predictable from very early in for the reader and it took the detective until over page 200 to figure it out which is a little disappointing for me. But it wasn't at all a bad read.

As you are likely aware, I am an avid reader. I am forever pushing books on people. Usually, people love them. One of those such people is now married to me. When I met him, he was "not a reader". Fast forward all the years we've been together and now he's recommending books to me. Ta-Da!

Carl Hiaasen and Bad Monkey were my husband's recommendations this time around. I must admit, I see what the draw was.

I am a fan of murder-mysteries. I like trying to figure out what's going to happen before the detective does. This book delivered on that front. What I did not expect, and yet enjoyed, was the dry humor. This book is so odd (for lack of a better word) that it's almost a good Monty Python skit. There's cliche characters who you shouldn't enjoy but DO, there's a severed arm, and literally anything can happen at any time.

I remember a student in my sixth grade reading class who used to make the most off-the-wall guesses about what would happen next when he was asked to predict. I think that kid and Carl Hiaasen would've gotten along quite well!

3 smiles for this enjoyable little rendezvous. I will try another of his works soon!

Bad Monkey is full of the Floridian absurdity that we've come to expect from Hiaasen. Andrew Yancey has been fired from his second police department, but when a former colleague asks him to do them a favor and drive a found severed arm to Miami, he gets pulled into a mystery that he thinks will get him his job back. The book is full of shenanigans galore, and not too much monkey. I could have done without a few of the ancillary characters, but overall Hiaasen has given us another entertaining caper.
