Alice Quinn... such a deep and complex character but so relatable. The Magicians is a spellbinding story , but seeing it through the eyes of Alice is brilliant and the art is impeccable! If you’re a fan of the trilogy, this is a nice way to dive back into Fillory and Brakebills, but in a fun graphic novel!

Alice is a teenager with magical abilities. Soon she becomes one of the students of Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy. She is one of the top students in her class together with the other two boys Penny and Quentin. Together they become friends and as they spend more time together they got closer. Everything changes when love is being involved and Alice chooses one of them. They went separate ways and the friendship didn't exist anymore.

Everything changes after graduation when all three of them meets again in unlucky circumstances. They found their way to the hidden world named Fillory that until this time was known only as a fiction world inside the book.

The story has two parts: at school and after graduation. First, of them, I liked and enjoyed more than the other. The story was very interesting but the characters were a little bit too naive and a hypocrite. I tried to understand what lead them to make their decisions but most of the time I couldn't. It's not a bad thing though because it made it real. They are young and they don't actually know what they want from life. They don't want to stuck in one place but also they are afraid of changes.

I liked this graphic version better than the original novel. While I was intrigued by the plot of the novel, by the end, the characters and the overall attitude of the story annoyed me. Something about this version lessened or omitted a lot of what frustrated me, so I was able to be drawn into the story again.

disclaimer if you’ve read other reviews by me and are noticing a pattern: You’re correct that I don’t really give starred reviews, I feel like a peasant and don’t like leaving them and most often, I will only leave them if I vehemently despised a book. I enjoy most books for what they are, & I extract lessons from them all. Everyone’s reading experiences are subjective, so I hope my reviews provide enough information to let you know if a book is for you or not, regardless if I add stars or not. Find me on Instagram: @bookish.millennial or tiktok: @bookishmillennial

this was so much fun! I wish they would do this for each character, because I would continue to eat them all up!

Thank you to NetGalley for a free review copy of this book.

Having never read the Magicians book series or knowing anything about it, I very much enjoyed this book! The story was really good as was the artwork. Not knowing anything about this series or the characters did not hinder me in any way while I was reading this. The characters were fully developed and all had good story arcs as the book progressed. I would love if there were more books that centered on each character like this one did one Alice. Overall this was a very interesting read and I would recommend it if you are into fantasy books such as The Chronicles of Narnia and similar titles.

As this story is told from Alice's perspective, I expected to see some new insights into Alice's past or reasons for some of her actions, but unfortunately this book adds nothing new.

If you've already read the books (and you probably won't be looking at this unless you have), there's nothing new here aside from artistic changes in character appearances.

It was an enjoyable read, and made me itch to re-read the books (or catch up on the TV series), but ultimately this is simply a rehash of events we already know.
