Die kriminologische Seite dieses Romans ist grundsolide. Das World Building lässt zu wünschen übrig; natürlich ist die Welt für die Charaktere selbstverständlich, aber für die Leser:innen nicht und da wurde man doch ein ums andere Mal etwas alleine gelassen. Die zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen sind recht eindimensional und auch oft seltsam beschrieben, von der eigentümlichen Fixierung auf menschliche Ausdünstungen und Körperöffnungen ganz zu schweigen. Ich mag den lakonisch-sarkastischen Humor des Hauptcharakters.

2014 erschienen, beschreibt eine überwachte Welt um 2040. Passt wunderbar zu Hologrammatica. Welches 2018 erschien und eine Welt um 2080 beschreibt mit Reminiszenzen an 2044. Würde mich wundern, wenn beide nicht im selben Universum spielen.
Aber das Hillenbrand Universum ist nicht klein und beginnt wohl mit dem Kaffeedieb im 16. Jahrhundert. Ich hatte jedenfalls viel Spaß mit dem Earl

Scary novel about a survalience society in the near future. the fact that the Netherlands is completely submerged did not help for my gloom feelings.

I was sitting on the chair, the naked skin of my short, pale legs touching its seat. I turned a page and this book briefly touched my warm hand. As a response, I felt the blood in my penis doing nothing, because I don't have one.
In other words I did not think too highly of the descriptions of the physical interactions of the main characters whose romance you could see miles and miles away and which did not really add anything to the story. The story itself was decent enough Scifi, but altogether this novel was not as good as the author's Hologrammatica and lost my interest two thirds through. I did finish it, but mostly out of spite.
