When comparing this book “all that she can see” with her last novel “on the other side” I must say: wow! What an improvement, Carrie Hope Fletcher has really grown as a writer. The story is build up in a much better way and I feel she has developed much stronger characters, with which I could connect. As already in her first book, Carrie uses a very easy/gentle “romantic” kind of writing style which goes really well with the beginning of the book. I loved the first part in which we get to know Cherry and her story. An easy read. Things a light, charming and fun and I enjoyed all the imaginative twists Carrie came up with.
Towards the middle I got a bit bored and I had to put it down and then suddenly there is a change of scenery. The story gets darker and …weirder and all this very sudden. Still the easy writing style does not change which is a bit confusing as it does not fit the plot of the story. It all started feeling a bit unrealistic and not properly thought through. It’s like the first part is this nice magical romantic story and suddenly we are in a kind of “dystopian” world. It was all a bit farfetched. It would have been good to take a deeper look into the world of “the guild” and do a bit more of explaining, exploring and story development. There is so much action happening but it’s not really filled or exciting (I do not know how to put this…). But as I did say, I did enjoy it and I do think it comes with a good and important lesson which is very clear: feelings make up who we are, without them we would be nothing. We should embrace our (different) feelings and find a good healthy balance.

not sure what this was doing Cherry can see people's bad emotions and in her baking can alleviate them, sometimes this is successful, sometimes not so successful. She has set up bakeries in a few places and once the place has improved she has moved on. Now she's in Plymouth and things are about to get more complicated. One of the people living there with her can see good emotions and knows that too much of a good thing could be harmful. As if that wasn't enough conflict; a secret agency meets the two and declares that they have to give up their abilities for the good of everyone. But their motives appear somewhat cloudy and things take several turns.
It's a bit of a muddle and I wasn't quite sure where things were going a lot of the time. I felt like there were several good stories that could be fleshed out better in this single story and somehow I wasn't feeling it.

I found this quite disappointing. The first half maybe even three quarters of the book was soooooo slow and boring. I hate leaving a book unfinished but it took me so long to read. Then the last part was so rushed.

The final quarter or so was actually exciting and an easy read. There was a lot happening, lots of new characters just dropped in and glossed over when it would’ve been much more interesting to spend more time on them. There was also lots of plot that could’ve been further explored and parts of the story that were happening from another perspective that we could’ve heard more about.

I so wanted to love this book, it started out so well and the concept was so enchanting to me! But there was just so much that felt amateurish - the clunky writing, the ideas were all over the place, telling not showing a lot of the time.

A book club choice. Not my style. It goes from a bit of a cringey romance to a sci fi action. It just didn't flow for me.

Generally, I liked the book. I feel it wasn't developed enough. There was so much going on in the later half of the novel that the first half seems over done and almost unnessecary. Perhaps it should have been a douology but on the other hand all the action/blood of the later half didn't match up with the first half. Just unexcepted in a. And way....not what I was prepared. I feel like the book has a split personality. Cause towards the end it read like a dystopian novel not a magical realism. Not sure if that is what the author was going for or just didn't know how to wrap it up. Anyways, it was still enjoyable.

I definitely wouldn't have read it if not for the fact that Carrie is the author.
