I couldn’t get over how much I loved this book.  I could have devoured the entire book in a day, but unfortunately the appearance of my friend took away my reading time.

The aspects I loved? Scarlett.  She obviously loves her sister and would do anything for her.  Caraval was such a beautiful and rich, albeit mysterious and creepy, setting .  I couldn’t get over how invested I felt in Scarlett and her obvious desire to save her sister.

Largely nonsensical [derogatory] and jarringly dark for a YA novel. If you must read it, check the trigger warnings. The dizzying, half-formed plot is not worth the trouble in my opinion.

This was a really great book, up until the end. I enjoyed being swept away in the world of Caraval, the mystery and the otherness of it all. I was not a fan of how everything was wrapped up, and not a huge fan of the dynamic between the two sisters either.

Up until the last 100 pages, it was a 4 star read, but the ending really brought it down for me. I'm not overly interested in reading the sequel, but I'm not completely opposed to it in the future.

I was obsessed with this book from the start and just kept thinking about it.

Loved the banter and the romance in this, and the bond between Donatella and Scarlet is so strong and beautiful. This is such a magical and unique setting and I could imagine it all through the writing. I really thought I knew where things were going but it kept surprising me in the best ways. I’m so excited to read the rest of this series.
