4 December 2023: 4 stars

I can't stop thinking about this series, so it deserves to be at least a four star.

28 November 2023: 3.75 stars

This was really fun. For some reason, I went into this expecting nothing more than just a magical carnival, so I was very surprised to say the least.

I really enjoyed Scarlet as a main character, and her love for her sister, Donatella was a beautiful relationship to read about. Watching them go to these extreme lengths to try and protect each other was truly heart warming.

I also really enjoyed the love story. Scarlet's love interest,
Julian
, is also a really great character, and I really enjoyed his personality. I hope I get to see more of them and their relationship in the next two books, even though
I know the focus switches to Donatella in this next book
.

It was an enjoyable read. The descriptions lend themselves much better to a screen adaptation than a book as the author continuously gets caught up on descriptions that detail the story. Scarlett is not a bad FMC. Ending was predictable.

I was so excited for this! And I did enjoy it but also what the actual f*** was that ending? It almost makes me not want to read the next two.

It had so many cool elements but the freaking colors as emotions got repetitive SO fast. I also think this would be better a horror fantasy novel. Not a romantasy. Felt like A LOT was left unaddressed by the author.

I would be TRAUMATIZED if I was fully convinced my sister and crush died bc of me and we’re just skipping over how much that would fuck someone up???

challenging dark emotional medium-paced
It’s kind of like if the author took the Original Peter Pan (the dark one where Peter kills the lost boys when they’re too old), Alice in wonderland, and just a touch of terror/horror genre, gaslighting, mixed in with with the most cliche YA tropes.
