A biblical fight between good and evil rests in the hands of a disgraced knight, an orphaned girl and an intoxicated priest. Struggling through the French countryside during the Great Death of 1438, these three must face trials of strength, temptation, and faith as the threat of horrible and inescapable death haunts their every step.

I cannot begin to describe how much I love this book. The historical context, the religious fervor, the monsters, the biblical relics! I could go on and on about this book. It was a leap of faith for me as I have never read anything like this, and it was a risk worth taking. Buehlman has an incredible writing style and a way of crafting a story that makes you want to spend the whole day reading, just so you can get to the end and start it over again. The characters grow and develop in such a natural way that I find myself thinking and worrying about them almost constantly. I highly HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone and everyone, period.
