This book was exceptional. Amy Tan's change in perspectives was a great idea and it was interesting to see how the mother and the daughter differed and how the were similar. I absolutely loved this book and couldn't out it down. Definitely worth the read!

This book stood out in every way. All of the stories were so well told and so captivating that I didn’t want to stop!

I enjoyed meeting these women. I enjoyed the exploration of the intergenerational dynamic, and of the immigrant intergenerational dynamic. But it felt very disjointed to me. It's not a cohesive story, more a collection of short stories. I still enjoyed the ride, but felt robbed of an actual plot.

This is my second time reading this book (the last was 6-7 years ago). But I enjoyed it all the same this time. I think it does a fantastic job of exploring complex relationships, and writing from many distinct points of view. Very well written and paced.
