As far as kids' books go, this was pretty good. I liked that the main character was a super hero who fought monsters, but I didn't like how the book presented the Princess in Black as the alter ego and that wearing black, fighting monsters, and being all around awesome was *not* the norm for princesses.

This is a good book for my almost-four-year-old who's on the precipice of being able to read. It has more content and a more interesting story than most of her picture books, is presented as a chapter book, but also has interesting illustrations along the way. In fact, LeUyen Pham's illustrations are probably my favorite part. So plus points for having an awesome illustrator.

Not my favorite, but this would be perfect for a beginning reader. Adventure, fluffy monsters and secret disguises (after all a proper princess would never fight monsters).

Princess Magnolia may look and act the part of a proper princess, but she's really the Princess in Black who single handedly saves goats from monsters. She's always been able to keep her secret, but now she's almost on the point of being discovered! What's a princess to do?

In my quest to find another engaging read aloud for my 4 1/2 year old I stumbled upon a recommendation for this series, and it doesn't disappoint. Short chapters, colorful pictures, and multiple books in the series! Sign us up!!
