Oh my god! This book is intense. I love it. Ruth is a warrior. My blood boiled because of Turk’s beliefs. I understood the sadness because of Davis, but damn, the hate was sad. I’m Asian so I don’t have first-hand experience like people of color, but it must not be easy. I can only imagine the prejudice they experience just by existing. This saddens me. I hope that all of us can be more understanding. It can never be easy to lose a child, but it can’t also be the same for people who are treated differently by the people around them. I salute Kennedy for finally seeing color. It’s a good thing that Turk turned his life around. Edison has a bright future, that’s for sure. Overall, I loved this! I felt a variety of emotions while reading. ✨

This is such a well written story. I LOVED the addition of the author's note at the end, it shows how much time and research Picoult put into this book.

I really liked the 3 different POVs in the book and how we saw such immense character growth. She didn't shy away from getting into the heads of 3 very different characters and was able to really get to the core of who they are.

This book tackles some extremely sensitive topics and can be really difficult to read, especially from the father's POV. I think that Picoult was able to find a balance between demonstrating sensitivity while showing the reality of this story.

My only criticism is that some parts dragged a bit and the book was a tad too long.

Once again, Jodi Picoult and her multiple narrators have a special place in my heart. This story drew me in and felt like both a breath of fresh air and the wind being knocked out of me. I have never read anything with this level of sincerity and the manner in which Picoult tackles the societal structures of racism, especially in the medical field, was absolutely soul-crushing in the best way. An instant favourite in my eyes.
